M.E. Nowels first grew this Mexican-Guatemalan hybrid in Huntington Park, California. The fruit’s appearance is unusual with bright green speckled over dark green skin and a peculiar light bulb shape. The skin is smooth, enclosing rich flesh rated “excellent” by Julie Frink, the curator of the avocado collection at UC Irvine’s South Coast Research Station. This fruit has a thicker-than-usual layer of rich green flesh lying under the skin, gradually morphing into the typical pale avocado green closer to the seed. Delicious! The tree is compact and lush, and it is a “B” type tree.
The fruit ripens with Bacon in Santa Cruz County but is superior in quality.
Sold out for spring 2024.
