This fruit is a commercial variety grown commonly in coastal Israel although it originated from the breeding program at UC Riverside. The handsome 12 to 15 oz. fruit is buttery and flavorful and is considered to be of excellent quality. The response of a group gathered at an avocado tasting given by the California Rare Fruit Growers seems to confirm this as the Ardith was rated the best tasted on that day, chosen from among 50 plus varieties. The medium sized tree bears a small seeded ovoid fruit with green bumpy skin. It is an “A” type tree. On our property in Santa Cruz County, the Ardith showed no damage after several nights of 26°F cold.
