Santa Clara Gold

Santa Clara Gold

The Santa Clara Gold was found growing in a Santa Clara Valley neighborhood near San Jose CA. Grafted by Peter Bermudes in the early 1970s with scionwood of an unknown origin, the tree has flourished, consistently setting heavy annual crops. Open and spreading, the tree is an eager grower with wide branch-angles. The heavy (1 pounders!), black-skinned, roundish-oblong fruit is easy to peel, and has a relatively small seed . The flesh is of the highest quality, rich, dense, and flavorful, even though it ripens early (at the same time as Zutano and other watery, lower-quality types), several months ahead Hass. The exceptional quality, the consistent, heavy bearing, and the astoundingly early ripening are each traits that would merit attention. The package of all three bundled into this one variety is almost too good to be true.
This tree has an A type flowering habit.

Sold out for spring 2024.

Trees are approximately 3 feet tall and sell for $45 each cash or check or Venmo, or $47 via credit card or PayPal. All trees are sold in a poly grow sleeve that is roughly equivalent to a #2 pot.
